Manages the configuration and tracking of Component Object Model (COM)-based components. If the service is stopped, most COM-based components will not function properly. BlackViper.com adds: You will receive, in the Event Log, an entry from DCOM complaining about not having this service running if disabled. I am unaware of any application that uses COM, but if set to manual, many services report to it, so it will start anyway. This service is required for System Event Notification.
